ENAV provides Aeronautical Information Services to flight crew by collecting, disseminating and updating information over the whole of Italy.
Essential aeronautical information is disseminated as per European (EU), national (ENAC) and international (ICAO) regulations via the Integrated Aeronautical Information Package (IAIP), which consists of:
Essential aeronautical information is disseminated as per European (EU), national (ENAC) and international (ICAO) regulations via the Integrated Aeronautical Information Package (IAIP), which consists of:
- AIP and related amendments;
- AIP supplements;
- NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) and PIB (Pre-flight Information Bulletin);
- AIC (Aeronautical Information Circular);
- Check list and list of current NOTAMs.
ENAV uses a highly automated system to optimise the management of aeronautical information and ensure that this is available in the most appropriate format to all interested parties.
Specifically, all NOTAMs Issued by the NOTAM Office after request of the appropriate originator, are shared through the Aeronautical Fixed Service (AFS) and converge in ENAV’s AOIS (Aeronautical Operational Information System) database, the AISAS (Aeronautical Information Services Automated System) subsystem, now based on WEB technology.
ENAV’s two ARO-CBOs (ATS Reporting Office - Central Briefing Office), located in Rome and Milan, provide crew with flight documentation, prepared according to the validated flight profile, in accordance with the Flight Plan (FPL) presented. The documentation contains the collection of both current NOTAMs and SNOWTAMs as PIBs (Pre Flight Information Bulletins), regarding pertinent operating information for the assigned flight route, as well as meteorological documentation including weather bulletins and warnings, forecast charts of weather phenomena, winds and temperatures at different altitudes.
Meteorology documentation is prepared using an AOIS subsystem called AMIAS (Aeronautical Meteorological Information Automated System) for generating messages regarding weather bulletins and warnings, as well as forecast maps with data supplied by SADIS through the FTP communications network with WAFC in London.
Additionally, since 2009, ENAV has used an automated handling system for producing AIPs and for updating the EAD (European AIS Database).
