Aireon operates the first and only satellite surveillance system for air traffic control in the world

Identification and exact position, speed, altitude and course of the aircraft: these are the data that Aireon can transmit to control centres in real time.

Thanks to the 75 orbiting satellites of the new Iridium Next constellation, Aireon provides surveillance around the globe, coverage that was previously only delivered by radar systems over 30% of global airspace.

Aireon will have a significant impact on world aviation: greater safety and more efficient flight routes to help lower environmental impact. In the next 10 years, thanks to Aireon, airlines will save about 4.8 billion kg of fuel and reduce their CO2 emissions by 14.3 billion kg.
