A saving of 10 million of Kg fuel and 31 Kg of CO2 in 2013 with ENAV's Flight Efficiency Plan

Reduction in time and distance of flights and of in airport operations for the phase of movement on the ground with savings in fuel, more direct routes and less pollution.

June 12, 2014 - In 2013 ENAV's Flight Efficiency Plan, while fully respecting safety and capacity requirements, permitted a reduction in time and distance of flights and of in airport operations for the phase of movement on the ground with savings in fuel, more direct routes and less pollution.

Considering the average annual value of the cost of aircraft fuel at 0.72 euros/Kg the actions of FEP implemented in 2013 brought about an overall economic saving of 7.2 million Euro for the air companies.  The result of the operations in 2013 can be summed up in:

    - A saving of 530,000 kilometers of flight

    - A fuel saving of around 10 million Kg

    - A reduction of around 31million Kg of CO2 emissions

The results obtained in 2013 by ENAV with the flight efficiency plan, added to the performance developed by the Plan during the 2008/2012 period can be estimated as a total saving of 102,200 metric tonnes of fuel for a total value of around 70 million Euro.

This operation was possible due to a specific theoretic and hands on training programme for the air traffic controllers, the updating of technological systems on all structures and also the virtuous collaboration with the Italian Air Force in managing the air space in a flexible and coordinated manner.
