4-Flight takes off. A new-generation air traffic control system

The beginning of the design phase of the 4-Flight programme, a new-generation air traffic control system responding to the requirements of the Single European Sky and to global standards of excellence, was set out during the latest ENAV Board Meeting.

Finmeccanica-Selex ES is the leading partner in an industrial group chosen by European tender, will develop the programme through a framework agreement worth a total of 205.9 million Euro.

The 4-Flight system will guarantee optimal performance in terms of safety, capacity, environmental impact and cost efficiency both for the supplier of the air traffic control service and for the airline companies, contributing to improvements in performance of the entire European network.

There are three main characteristics of the new system: ability to optimize the flight routes, interoperability with the systems of different countries and open architecture which will allow further improvements to operational performance.

4-Flight - Maria Teresa Di Matteo, President of ENAV declared – will allow ENAV to operate in accordance with ever higher efficiency and safety requirements, strongly supporting the growth of national and European air traffic with important benefits for the country system. This programme – Di Matteo concludes – strengthens the company’s position of operational and technological leadership in an international context .”
