As part of the first Call of the new SESAR 3 Program - the research and innovation initiative promoted by the European Commission - the ENAV Group was awarded 15 projects obtaining funding for an amount of 4.5 million euros, on an investment total of 350 million euros from the aviation industry and the European Union, through the Horizon Europe funding programme.

This is an big result for the Group, which confirms itself as one of the most important European companies in the management of increasingly intelligent, digital and sustainable air traffic.

The projects cover a wide range of technologies necessary for the creation of the Digital European Sky by 2040, thanks to the development of solutions that will see their application in sensitive areas for the Air Traffic Management sector: reduction of emissions, application of artificial intelligence for the automation of air traffic management systems, integration of drones and creation of urban services for mobility.

In particular, ENAV will be the coordinator of GALAAD (Green Aviation – Lean Arrivals And Dynamicity), whose objective is to develop and validate a concept for the dynamic allocation of routes in the terminal area to make air traffic control operations more sustainable, resilient responsive and adaptable to changes in operating conditions and changes in traffic demand.

Works start is expected by June 2023, with a three-year duration.
