Enav tests the remote control tower

It was the first live flight trial in the world on a remote management of a high traffic airport

Milan Malpensa, November 11 2016 – In Milan Malpensa tower there was a RACOON demonstration. RACOON (Remote Airport Concept Of OperatioN) is a project built on the SESAR experience and coordinated by Enav regarding the feasibility of single remote tower operations.

It was the first live flight trial in the world on a remote management of a high traffic airport. During the experimental sessions from Milan Malpensa tower Enav managed over 100 aircraft movements  on Milan Linate airport, thanks to the integration between a video system and radar data with the same  equipment based on Linate tower.

Thanks to RACOON, Enav showed the concrete possibility to manage the air traffic with a system of a remote tower with major benefits in terms of performances and safety, while creating a control tower backup repository.
