TMA2010+ Validation South

TMA2010+ Validation South is a EUROCONTROL funded programme carried out by ENAV and SICTA . It intends to evaluate operational concepts in a real ATM environment through Real Time Simulation experiments (Human in the Loop Experiments). They will take place in Roma at ENAV CNS/ATM Experimental Centre using EUROCONTROL's platform ESCAPE ACE 5B and basing on Roma Terminal Area (TMA) operational scenario. Real Time Simulation activities will be designed to achieve an initial set of validation results during the first large-scale human in the loop simulation exercise while further refined validation results will be achieved in the second part of the project.

This project is investigating the role of current AMAN systems in supporting particular P-RNAV applications, such as Point Merge. It intends to identify any additional ground-system support requirements that might be needed in this type of implementation.

The key elements under evaluation are:

• the integrated and advanced arrival management system and concept (AMAN P)
• the use of Continuous Descent Approaches to enhance the aircraft profile efficiency
• new arrival routes to Fiumicino airport based on P-RNAV (Precision Area Navigation) procedures

The expected benefits are related to the possible reduction of Air Traffic Controller workload (potentially leading to more ATC capacity), more efficient flight trajectories (less fuel burnt and positive environmental impact) and more efficient delay sharing. New systems and functionalities will be assessed and refined in the second session of simulations planned for the project.
