Techno Sky S.r.l., an ENAV S.p.A. Company, participates in pursuing ENAV’s mission which is that of contributing to the efficiency of the national transport system by assuring safety and punctual circulation in the Italian airspace. Thanks to the company’s longstanding experience of over 40 years, Techno Sky contributes to reaching the above objective through its maintenance activities and the optimization of functionality and running costs of the technical ATC infrastructures. Techno Sky’s activities are oriented towards “mission critical” highly technological sectors, where its constant high standard dynamic performance is combined with quality and acquired experience. Decades of specific “on the field” activities combined with its unique heritage of capabilities and professional competence, make Techno Sky a one-only reality in the technical scenario of Air Traffic Management environment. Techno Sky’s organizational and structural profile has at the same time led to an organizational and cultural growth. Indeed human resources with their “know-how” and skills are the company’s real asset hence it cannot disregard the fact that it is constantly linked to personnel motivation and technical and managerial training dynamics.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

During the years, R&D activities have been a key contributor to the success of Techno Sky, being technical innovation a determining factor for continuous improvement and market competitiveness. Advanced measuring and modern predictive maintenance systems are the most innovative results obtained through the activities of the company’s R&D. Particular attention is given to the study of innovative systems required for the company’s core business and hence linked to maintenance engineering models. Said research studies are aimed at providing maintenance with advanced and adequate methodological and technological tools, at the same time promoting organizational improvement: maintenance seen as an innovation strategy and an element of constant development. Among the main R&D activities, the following should be mentioned:

  • study for the analysis of integrated airport security systems
  • study of Mobile Computing technologies to support maintenance
  • study and development of a mobile station for fi eld analysis
  • study and development of an aerodrome remote alarm system
  • study and development of an Advanced airport Meteorological Information System (AMIS)
  • study and development of a system for acquisition and presentation of runway visual range data (RVR)
  • study and development of an automatic terminal information system to broadcast meteorological bulletins via VHF radio channels (ATIS)
  • study and development of an AWOS system (Automated Weather Observing System) for managing multiple meteorological parameters

OPERATIONS

Techno Sky has full responsibility for the operational management and the software/ hardware maintenance of the entire range of systems and equipment used to provide flight assistance services in Italy. The company ensures round-the-clock technical and operational management of 4 Area Control Centres, 49 airports, ENAV Academy, 41 radar systems, 95 telecommunications centres, 76 meteo systems, 198 navigation aid systems (ILS, VOR, DME) and 71 software systems.

Techno Sky’s main areas of operation are:

  • operations and maintenance of ATC/ATM centres
  • technical and o perational reconfiguration of control systems, for the operation of flight assistance systems
  • design and application of systems’ preventive and corrective maintenance procedures
  • technical/systemistic assistance and software maintenance
  • technical/statistical analysis for systems’ performance and trend evaluation
  • systems’ configuration control (both hardware and software)
  • material logistics (spare parts, supply, distribution and stock)
  • metrological activities to guarantee reference of the instruments used to certify systems’ performance

Techno Sky carries out installation and integration of ATC systems and equipment, both in Italy and abroad, as well as pre-operational phases including performance tests and functional checks, support to validation, operational certification and risk analysis activities. Moreover the company manages the systems’ operational start-up coordinating the technical activities with the operational requirements of service continuity. The company’s systems engineering goes beyond its capabilities in this sector only, considering it reaches neighbouring fields (such as transport, telecommunications, environment, etc.), sectors where quality, safety and innovation are primary requirements. Techno Sky is currently engaged in the following programmes:

  • design of new ATM operational platforms for the international programmes (SESAR, 4-Flight)
  • validation and test activities of the European “Swim Suit” programme, in cooperation with ENAV
  • supply and modernization of meteo systems
  • integration of new systems in ENAV’s national network of command and control systems

ENVIRONMENT

Always very attentive towards the environment and to ecologically sustainable issues, Techno Sky actively takes part in the continuous process of stakeholders awareness in the sector. With this in mind it carries out systems’ analyses and studies to subsequently develop systems to exploit the potential of renewable sources. Likewise, some pilot projects are carried out to create ecologically sustainable airport systems based on optimizing the disposal of waste (with possible reutilization) deriving from main pollutants (waste, exhaust oils, etc.), on optimizing consumption (reducing energy consumption), limiting/optimizing ground circulation of polluting vehicles (optimizing flow and ground movements management through advanced Apron Management systems), monitoring various types of pollution (acoustic, electromagnetic, air-pollution). To develop such models Techno Sky offers just some of its distinctive competences such as:

  • deep knowledge of the operational environment and requirements for systems application
  • specific technical capabilities in the energy sector and competence in approaching the theme in an innovative way
  • consolidated network with other stakeholders of the aeronautical airport environment In this context Techno Sky supports ENAC (Italian Civil Aviation Authority) by participating in the activities of the Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) of ICAO with particular reference to the objectives of “operational

OUR VALUES

Social responsibility is an integral part of the business approach adopted by the company: its attention towards human resources and towards the environment, its constant availability towards innovation are all binding factors of its business conduct but, above all, they are a part of Techno Sky’s culture. The polic y used in recruitment and subsequent introduction to operational activities, in constructing specific professional courses aimed at enhancing each person’s technical/ cultural capabilities, strongly demonstrate how the company’s growth strategy is oriented, over time, to cover positions of greater responsibility without leaving behind the professional growth of its personnel (promote from within). Hence the investments made in terms of professional training and formation are of utmost importance and complete the experience and know-how acquired “on the field” by its personnel, confirming that the company’s people are its most important asset. Thanks to each and every person in the company, ATC Technology has for decades been at the service of safe, efficient and regular air transportation.
